My laptop has Windows Vista. The driver updater is running endlessly when I run this program. How come?

No one should ever use driver updating programs because they do more harm than good. In your situation, it appears, there is a bug where the software continues the scanning procedure. Simply close it.
A driver updater will check to see if the PCI/UID are available, but it might provide a wrong INF file as well, and after you install it, the functionality is affected.
Always download drivers from developer's websites and not the other way around. AVG Driver Updater comes from a respected company with a reputation, but they should be selected only for their antivirus solutions.
